8: Ali and Morphine
Readers of Slim Novel 2, Ali & Kimura at the Worlds Fair 1939 may know about Ali's Morphine (If not click 2.(24-25) On the Road - And Stop for Morphine
  •     2.26 One-Million Hours Life), which she calls MS, because the Morphine is actually a chemical compound of its Sulfate (SO4-).

She prepares a syringe with her usual 2-mg MS dose; then,, injects it lovingly into her left front thigh, and drops down on the living room sofa, putting the crook of her right elbow over both eyes to block light, as is her way in order to get the pleasant effect of the MS.
In minutes she experiences it. Her thoughts: What next is up for me? And people and places? Dan! The old geezer could be a way for me to get my supply of MS. An oldster has excuses to get pain-prescription from local docs. Something to cultivate soon.

By thirty minutes, she is alert, a tingle, aglow! – Red for Fred, in her lingo, ready for anything.
She sits up, stretches, and gets the very pleasant feeling in her muscles of a typically-felt-right-after-morphine injection; she calls it pleasure-bubbles in the muscles; and she goes to sit at her portable Underwood typewriter for The Novel she is writing about Science-Civilization – her Utopia.
A worried sounding "Knock! Knock! Knock!".
It is Dan. “Miss Ali, please come up. Margaret!”
Ali hurries Dan up the outside-hall flight of stairs into his opened-door apartment 2A. On his living room floor, she sees, an old woman in a housecoat. Ugly old bitch! she thinks, kneeling to feel for a heart beat.
No pulse ar the wrist and she feels for the carotid artery pulses in the neck: none. The face is bluish.
   "She is dead.”
Dan sits down on sofa and says quietly, “A heart irregularity”,  the doctor said after his electrocardiogram. Thirty-eight years of marriage and now the end.”
Ali stands. “May I make you tea or coffee?".
Dan looks up. "I must call the police." He takes Ali's left hand in his two. “Thank you my new young friend. Now go downstairs. Police always ask questions. Better you not stay.”
“Are you sure you're OK?  I don't mind being here with you. And I'll comfort you. She hugs him hard. And, to her surprise, feels his two hands press her against him. “Thank you, young lady, please come this evening.”
Thus, the encountering of an ancient desire; and Ali thinks: I will solve my MS problem with this old geezer.
