Guy had Eddie's address and he emailed him ahead of time so his showing up is no big surprise. He had been in Tokyo for the seminar on colonizing Mars but that had just been a few days. Now, it is Saturday late afternoon and Eddie is relaxing at his and Yuko's modernized shack in Shinagawa as a sound of the sliding door in the entrance vestibule catches his attention. He gets up from his low table seat in the central room opposite Yuko over a hibachi on which skewered sardine-like fish are cooking. In the vestibule he comes face to face with - himself!
'Guy! I thought you would call from the airport?"
"I didn't want you and Yuko to waste your time greeting me there so I got on the Narita Express just as it is written in the Physician's Notebooks chapter on Japan."
A minute later Guy is sitting between Yuko and Eddie by the hibachi happily eating what looks to him like a big sardine with rice and manipulating his chopsticks, or as they say in Japan, ohashi, like an expert.
"Just in time for our next Seminar" says Eddie between bites.
"What will it be?"
"Communism." Eddie lets that sink in. Then: "And our resident communist, Old Miss Harumi will give it.
"Oh yes, I do recall that old biddy." Guy says with a laugh. Rather sexy for a 95-year-old, dontchyathink?"
"It's her slimness, which she cultivates. Says she's preparing for a starvation self euthanasia gradually. Also I'm giving her hormones." Eddie is interested in a younger man's response to Harumi physically, "So you find her attractive?"
"Well ....?' Guy looks embarrassed and Eddie adds. "She used to be a flaming lesbian, but that was years ago."
Guy is happy to change the subject and looks forward to the seminar, which is tomorrow at 1 PM at the International House in Roppongi.
